JAL Hometown Support Team Gifu Prefecture Representative Matsuo
I was born and raised in Gifu Prefecture, and as a true Gifu native I still speak in Gifu dialect. Even now, I go back to my hometown several times a year during long holidays.
My hobbies are eating and making delicious food.
The Charm of Gifu Prefecture
Tourist destinations include Hida Takayama, Shirakawa-go, and the city of water, Gujo. Local specialties include cutlery from Seki City, Mino ware from Tajimi and Toki, and Mino washi paper from Mino City. There are also plenty of seasonal delicacies that can only be enjoyed locally.
We often get asked, "Where is Gifu Prefecture?" and not many people know where it is located, but it is a prefecture that we would like everyone to visit at least once.
The local souvenirs chosen by the Gifu Prefecture Hometown Support Team are...
"Sasame Sasakuri" (fresh chestnuts)

Price: 1,728 yen per piece (without box) / Seller: Kawakamiya Confectionery

This is a sweet made by wrapping chestnut kinton in steamed yokan, which is then wrapped in bamboo skin and steamed again. This is a delicacy that allows you to enjoy chestnut kinton, a specialty of Gifu, at any time of the year. It also goes perfectly with the steamed yokan that surrounds it.
You can enjoy it with Japanese tea such as Shirakawa tea, as well as coffee. The cute round cut surface makes it a perfect souvenir for friends.
Available for purchase at Chubu Centrair International Airport and the main store of Okashidokoro Kawakamiya (Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture)
