I want to go to Portugal again!

Sato-san has often traveled abroad with her mother, a photographer, since she was a university student. Her first solo trip abroad was to Portugal in 2019.

I had always wanted to experience going abroad on my own, so after doing a lot of research I chose Portugal. It was a gut feeling decision!

She was inspired by the Portuguese cityscapes she saw on social media and in magazines.

The scenery was simply beautiful. I was impressed by the contrast between the colorful flowers and the blue Portuguese tiles called "azulejos"!

Sato-san said that she traveled as if she were living in Portugal, taking in the sights and exploring the city at her own pace. She was impressed by the palace and other tourist sites, but the most luxurious thing she experienced was the time she spent walking around the city of Lisbon.

The food is also really delicious. They often use seafood, such as octopus stewed in tomato sauce and grilled sardines, so it suits Japanese tastes too!

Portuguese cuisine is said to be the most suitable for Japanese tastes among all European cuisines, and Sato-san seems to have become completely fascinated by it.

I love wine, so I'd love to go on a gourmet trip with some food-loving friends.

The hardest part about traveling alone is the food! Sato-san regretted that even though there was delicious food in front of her, she could only eat one dish at a time because of the volume. She said that she wanted to buy some Portuguese wine, which has been gaining attention recently, and try cooking with local ingredients.

In addition, Sato will share some of the charms of Portugal that she has seen!

When I was in high school and I went to study abroad in the United States for the first time without my parents, I realized that I could go abroad even without my parents, and I felt that I had become much closer to other countries.

Q. Tell us your favorite travel destination!

A: New York!

Before COVID, I used to visit New York every year. There are some similarities with Tokyo, but everything is exciting and the fashion is fun. It's a city I really love. If someone asks me, "Where is your second home?" I answer, "New York" (laughs).

Q. What do you pay attention to when it comes to fashion when traveling?

A. Bring clothes that will lift my spirits while traveling!

When I travel, I tend to bring comfortable, versatile items, but sometimes I'm disappointed when I look at the photos later.

I research the local atmosphere and bring along outfits that match the atmosphere for the number of days I'll be there. That way, I have fun being there, and I'm very satisfied when I look back at the photos. It makes for better memories, so I put a lot of effort into putting together my outfits!

Q. Finally, what does “travel” mean to you, Sato-san?

A. Liberation

Before going on a trip, I think a lot of things like, "I'm going to take a new look at myself," but once I get there I forget all those thoughts and have fun from the moment I wake up in the morning until I go to bed at night!

My five senses are heightened.... I feel like my sensibilities are liberated, like I'm in the zone, which I don't get when I'm in Tokyo. It's so much fun, it makes me want to go traveling again.
