I am a native of Miyagi Prefecture who was born and raised near Sendai Airport and went to school and worked in my hometown until I joined JAL. The earthquake made me realize the good things about my hometown and I started speaking the Sendai dialect again, which I hadn't used since moving to Tokyo.
I like collecting local mascot goods, and my favorite characters are Kesennuma's "Hoya Boya" and the "Sendai-ben Kokeshi" that speaks in the Sendai dialect.

The Charm of Miyagi Prefecture

The Sendai Plain stretches out, with the Pacific Ocean to the east and Mount Zao to the west, making it a pleasant place to live in the Tohoku region with a mild climate. It is charming that it is full of delicious food, both from the sea and the mountains.
The prefecture is also famous for its rice production, and produces many fine sake brands, including "Hakurakusei," which is served in first class on international flights, making it a place that can be enjoyed by both gourmets and alcohol lovers.

"Setoya's Special Yokan"

This unique shop is a long-established china shop founded in 1927, and has been making yokan for over 80 years. The yokan, made without any additives and using only carefully selected ingredients, is transparent and beautiful like a jewel, and is not too sweet, with a sweet and sour fruit aftertaste, making it a delight for those who like spicy food.
Although it is a Japanese sweet, it goes very well with black tea, so if you enjoy it with a slightly more expensive black tea such as Mariage Freres, it will make your tea time more luxurious than usual. We especially recommend "Ichigoen", which uses fresh strawberries from the local Watari area.
