佐世保港外から北へ25キロ、平戸瀬戸まで連なる大小208の島々を九十九島といい、島の密度は日本一と言われています。
ゆったり遊覧船で巡るのがお勧め。佐世保市内8つの展望所からの眺めも格別です。
大地の営みが生んだ美しい大自然、平戸諸島、五島列島などの外洋性多島群とともに、日本最西端の海の国立公園「西海国立公園」に指定されています。
