大浦天主堂 （オオウラテンシュドウ）
国宝・大浦天主堂は1864年、幕末の開国とともに建築された、現存するものでは国内最古のゴシック様式の教会です。
豊臣秀吉の命令により殉教した日本二十六聖人に捧げられた教会で、天主堂の正面は殉教の地である西坂に向けて建てられています。また、1865年3月、潜伏キリシタンが神父に信仰を告白した、世界の宗教史上に残る劇的な「信徒発見」の舞台として、世界文化遺産「長崎と天草地方の潜伏キリシタン関連遺産」の構成資産のひとつを成しています。
