Because it's not a major area, called the "back side," you can enjoy the original atmosphere of the area by viewing little-known scenery and stopping by shops with a deep atmosphere. Let us take you on a cycling trip along the back side of the Shimanami Kaido.

The islands of the Seto Inland Sea are popular destinations for leisurely island trips. If you love traveling, you've probably thought at least once, "I'd like to cycle from Honshu to Shikoku." The Shimanami Kaido, which connects Onomichi City and Imabari City, is well known as a mecca for cyclists.

Akinada Bridge connects the mainland to Shimokamagari Island. Baby oysters are growing in the calm waters.
However, the cycling route I would like to recommend in this article is the "Akinada Tobishima Kaido," also known as the "Ura Shimanami Kaido." The Akinada Tobishima Kaido is a course that leisurely rides between islands like stepping stones floating in the Seto Inland Sea.
You can also access Imabari City and Omishima Island by departing from Kure City and then taking a ferry from Okamura Island.

One of the differences between the Shimanami Kaido and the Akinada Tobishima Kaido is the distance traveled. The Shimanami Kaido is about 70km long, but the Akinada Tobishima Kaido can be traveled in just 30km if you choose the shortest route.
It's easy enough for beginners to try, so you can enjoy cycling casually.
