Special Place of Scenic Beauty Ritsurin Garden
Ritsurin Garden, the largest of all the cultural property gardens designated as Special Places of Scenic Beauty by the nation, was completed nearly 300 years ago as a villa for the Matsudaira clan, the feudal lords of Takamatsu. With six ponds and thirteen artificial hills skillfully arranged against the backdrop of the lush greenery of Mt. Shiun, it is a stroll-style garden from the early Edo period, with excellent layout and stonework, and is rich in the elegance of wood and stone.
Blessed with the changing scenery of each season, the flowers that bloom here, along with the 1,000 beautifully maintained pine trees, create a beauty that is said to change with every step.
