JAL Hometown Support Team Yamaguchi Prefecture Representative Shibata
The rural landscape of Akiyoshidai, Yamaguchi Prefecture, where my grandparents live, is a spiritual home to me, as someone from Tokyo.
I want as many people as possible to know about the charm of my peaceful hometown, so I am active as a member of the Yamaguchi Prefecture Hometown Support Team.
The Charm of Yamaguchi Prefecture
Surrounded by mountains on three sides, the Sea of Japan, the Seto Inland Sea, and the Hibiki Sea, Yamaguchi Prefecture has so many delicious ingredients and local dishes that you can't eat them all in one visit. I hope you'll try Yamaguchi Prefecture along with its hot springs and local sake, which historical figures from the end of the Edo period and the Meiji Restoration would have enjoyed.
"There's seafood, mountain produce, hot springs, and everything!"
The local souvenirs chosen by the Yamaguchi Prefecture Hometown Support Team are...
"Awayuki"

Price: 1,485 yen per stick (sao style) / Sold by: Awayuki Honpo Shokindo

It's a mysterious Japanese sweet that fizzes when you bite into it, and melts away the moment you put it in your mouth, leaving only a gentle sweetness. It felt like eating pure white snow, so I kept asking my grandmother for one more and one more and ate it together.
It can be enjoyed by both small children and the elderly, so it is perfect as a gift for people of all ages or for family gatherings.
Available for purchase at Awayuki Honpo Shokindo (Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture)
