One of the joys of traveling is choosing souvenirs. The items you bring back as mementos of your trip reflect the unique climate and culture of the place you visited. However, there are so many attractive souvenirs to choose from in each region that it can be hard to decide.

I was born in Masuda city, Shimane prefecture. Since I first joined Japan Airlines, I have had the desire to let more people know about the charms of Shimane, where I was born and raised, so I applied to be a part of the Hometown Support Team.
Before the Hometown Support Team was established, the team also worked as the former Sky Ambassador Sanin.

The Charm of Shimane Prefecture

Shimane Prefecture faces the Sea of Japan with the Chugoku Mountains at its back, and is blessed with natural blessings such as mountains, rivers, seas, and lakes. One of the attractions of the prefecture is the food that has been cultivated in this rich environment.
Izumo Enmusubi Airport is located halfway between Izumo Taisha Shrine and the national treasure Matsue Castle, making it easily accessible. Shimane Prefecture is also known as the "beautiful skin prefecture," and has over 60 hot springs with a wide variety of spring water, so we recommend visiting them for a hot spring tour.

The local souvenirs chosen by the Shimane Prefecture Hometown Support Team are...

In the Sanin region, flying fish are known as "ago" (a type of fish) because they are so delicious that your jaw will fall off. They used to be minced and grilled outdoors, which is why flying fish kamaboko came to be called "ago no yaki" (fish cakes cooked outdoors).
It has the aroma of mirin that lingers in your nose and the subtle sweetness of flying fish.
Not only is it a popular gift, but it is also a common part of everyday meals. It is a Shimane specialty that is loved by people of all ages, from young to old.

Available for purchase at Izumo Enmusubi Airport and Nagaokaya Mosuke Shirakata store (Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture)
