Furthermore, trains and buses arrive and depart Miyazaki Station every minute, so you can travel without wasting time. If you've come all the way to Miyazaki, you can't help but try the local cuisine. In search of local food, hop on a bus from your hotel and head to downtown Miyazaki.

As you walk around Miyazaki city, you'll find many eat-in and take-out shops, and the taste is guaranteed.

When you think of Miyazaki Prefecture cuisine, you think of Miyazaki beef and chicken nanban, but when asked about evening cuisine, most people would probably answer "charcoal-grilled local chicken." Local chicken is a very popular snack to go with alcohol, and the most popular of these is "Miyazaki Jidori Chicken."

If you want to eat delicious "Miyazaki Jidori" chicken, head to "Gunkei Honten Kakushigura," a famous restaurant known only to those in the know.

Near the Tachibana Dori 3-chome bus stop on the Miyazaki Kotsu bus line is the largest restaurant district in Miyazaki City, commonly known as "Nishitachi," which is centered on Nishi Tachibana Dori, the center of Miyazaki City. Gunkei Honten Kakushigura, a Miyazaki Jidori chicken specialty restaurant, is located on Nishi Ginza Dori, a street further west of Chuo Dori, which is one street west of Nishishitachi. It is a little difficult to find for first-time visitors, but it is truly a hidden gem.

Gunkei raises its chickens in its own farm using unique breeding methods to produce the special Miyazaki Jidori chicken. It has a chewy yet soft texture, and the more you chew it, the juicier it gets, with a deep flavor.

The aroma of charcoal and the fragrant chicken oil combine to create the perfect snack for sweet potato shochu. The handmade roasted salt, which is painstakingly made, contains no additives and brings out the flavor of the Jidori chicken. Gunkei's original blend of yuzu pepper also goes perfectly with the charcoal grilled food. Be sure to try it fresh on the spot.

Fruits grown in Miyazaki's warm climate are one of the foods you can't miss out on in Miyazaki Prefecture. If you feel tired during your trip, head to get your vitamins fix.

Fruits Ohno is a fruit store located along Nishitachibana Street in Miyazaki City that was founded in 1981. The parlour ANNEX offers a selection of sweets made with the finest fruits that are a Miyazaki specialty, such as ripe mangoes, hyuganatsu oranges and kumquats.

The most popular parfait, the Fruit Parfait, is made with a generous amount of fruit, and is a dish that is visually gorgeous and allows you to enjoy the deliciousness of the ingredients themselves.

In addition, they mainly offer seasonal fruits from all over Japan, fruit juices, and fruit cocktails. You can enjoy fruit in a variety of ways, so if you feel like recharging with something sweet, don't hesitate to come here.

If you want to get some work done during your gourmet-filled sightseeing trip in Miyazaki city, the co-working space "ATOMica," also located in the city, is convenient.

It is located on the 8th floor of the Miyazaki Nanairo East Building, close to the two gourmet spots introduced above. Once you have completed a simple membership registration, you will be able to enter and exit freely using a special security card key.

Once you pass through the glass entrance, you'll find an open space. From long desks perfect for desk work to sofa spaces where you can work while relaxing, the environment is set up so that you can get to work quickly in your spare time.

Of course, Wi-Fi is available throughout the office. There are separate private rooms, so you can make phone calls or hold online meetings without worrying about those around you. You can work stress-free.

[Holiday] Aoshima Shrine: A spiritual island filled with subtropical plants

Even if you don't have a car, you can access famous tourist spots from Miyazaki Station, whether heading north or south, by train or bus. Why not spend an entire day on your day off visiting the nearby spots?

Take the JR Nichinan Line heading towards Abutsu for about 30 minutes. Aoshima Coast stretches out in the southeast of Miyazaki City. Aoshima is just a short walk away, crossing the Yayoi Bridge that juts out into the sea. Surrounded by strangely shaped rocks known as "Devil's Washboard," you'll feel as if you've wandered into another world.

The island is mystical and lush with subtropical plants that are designated as special natural monuments, such as 300-year-old Chinese fan palms and sea vines. At the center of the island is Aoshima Shrine. Yamasachihiko, who appears in the legend of Umisachi Yamasachi, and his wife Toyotamahime are enshrined here.

Passing through the torii gate and walking along the approach to the center of the island, the vermilion-painted main shrine will come into view. The path continues to the right of the main shrine, and at the end of that path is the main shrine. The path to the main shrine is surrounded by many birouju trees, so it is dim even during the day, and has a silent, sacred atmosphere. You will feel as if the gods are watching over you from nearby.

Within the shrine grounds, there are various rituals such as "Wadatsumiharai", where a talisman with a wish written on it is dissolved in a well that springs up on the island, "Amanohiraka", where an unglazed pot called a "hiraka" is thrown into the water while muttering a wish, and "Musubi Koyori", where a paper string with a wish written on it is tied to the couple palm trees at the main shrine. Be sure to try these out when you visit the shrine.

[Holiday] Japan's largest regular morning market, the Toronto Ron Dom (Kawanami Town)

About 40 minutes from Miyazaki Station on the JR Nippō Main Line heading towards Nobeoka is Kawaminami Town, home to the largest regular morning market in Japan. Located on a plateau at the foot of Mount Osuzu, the town is a thriving livestock and agricultural town.

The center of Kawaminami town can be said to be the "Trontron Shopping Street."

The most famous morning market in the Trontron Shopping Arcade is the "Trontron Light Truck Market." From 8:00 am to 11:45 am on the fourth Sunday of every month, 600 meters of the shopping arcade is turned into a pedestrian precinct, and a morning market with about 130 trucks opens.

The scene of vegetables and other products being sold directly from the beds of light trucks is full of energy, and this morning market is well-known as one of the largest "regular morning markets" in Japan, with around 10,000 visitors each time.

A wide variety of goods are traded. Local livestock farmers offer burgers and stewed beef tendons, and there is a wide selection of locally produced goods. There are also stalls selling salt-grilled sweetfish and charcoal-grilled local chicken, which are also popular. Many items are on offer, including seasonal vegetables, fruits, tea, seafood, woodwork, and pottery, and one of the best parts of the Keitora Market is the lively communication between sellers and buyers. This is a truly local spot where you can experience the local atmosphere.

[Holiday] Enjoy authentic German-style cuisine for lunch | Geschmack (Kawanami Town)

For lunch, we went to Geschmack, a pork specialty store located about 2km south of Trontron Shopping Street.

This shop, housed in a stylish German-style building, sells processed foods such as ham and sausages, meat, and prepared foods such as minced cutlets, all made using the original brand of pork, "Aji Pork," which is prepared in the authentic German style. The main feature of "Aji Pork" is the mellow and refreshing flavor of its fat.

If you go to the restaurant in a separate building next to the direct sales store, you can enjoy homemade "Aji Pork" dishes on the spot.

The lunch menu, which includes thick-sliced pork loin cutlets and pork steaks, is hearty and comes with rice or bread, an appetizer, soup, and salad. The proud "sausage" that is always included with the lunch menu is a delicious and safe sausage made without preservatives or fillers.

Every dish on the menu exudes a taste that is reminiscent of the kingdom of livestock, making this a restaurant that is definitely worth visiting if you come to Kawaminami Town.
