"Typica" (Nishi-Ogikubo, Tokyo)
There's something new to discover every time you visit Typica. Run by a husband and wife team, the shop is located just a short walk from JR Nishi-Ogikubo Station.

I always order the parfait and drink set here, and I'm always amazed by the composition of the parfait.

The contents of the parfait change every month, and it contains two or three different ice creams, so the flavors are really interesting. There's at least one vegetable flavor or a spice flavor that you don't often eat every month, so it's exciting to wonder what combination will come next.
When I first visited in autumn, I ordered an apple parfait, and the ice cream inside was cabbage ice cream. The taste of the vegetable came through directly, but somehow it didn't feel strange, and it went perfectly with the apple. It also contained cinnamon ice cream and sweet potato, so it was a parfait that really made me feel like autumn.

The most surprising thing so far has been the shiso sorbet and the five-spice ice cream. Each element is unique, but they don't clash when eaten together, and it's fun to taste the combinations that can only be found at Typica. Rather than going to eat a parfait, it feels more appropriate to say that I went there for an experience.
Another fun thing is choosing the drink to pair it with. I'm not a big fan of coffee, so I often pair it with Japanese black tea, but they will also suggest coffee and wine pairings that go well with the parfait, so I recommend you give them a try.

The parfait flavor changes on the 20th of every month, so be sure to check out Instagram (@typica_coffee_wine).

Flavors that go well with wine, ice cream floating in soup. You'll find ice cream that feels like a real treat.
"kasiki" (Hatagaya, Tokyo)
Kasiki, located in Nishihara Shopping Street in Hatagaya, was originally an ice cream shop rented from a wine shop, and as such has a wide range of adult flavours that go perfectly with wine.
Inside (Photo provided by Kasiki)
The ice cream has a gentle texture and is relatively not too sweet. Many of the flavors are made with fruit, but many of them combine two elements, making you surprised at how many combinations you can make in one ice cream.
Amaou x rosemary, dried persimmon x cinnamon, white peach x Oriental Beauty, rhubarb x Japanese pepper, etc. Various flavors are available depending on the season, but the dried persimmon x cinnamon flavor was particularly impressive. Dried persimmon ice cream is quite rare in the first place, but the aroma of cinnamon adds a nice tingle to it. The dried persimmon melting on the tongue along with the base ice cream was also irresistible.
We also recommend the cute new menu item "12 Months of Ice Cream and Soup," which started in January 2023, with ice cream floating on top of soup. It looks like a treat that comes at the end of a course meal, and it's always hard to decide whether to have the regular ice cream or the soup.

The interior of the shop is decorated in soft beige, and you can enjoy ice cream with a glass of natural wine or coffee. There is also seating outside, so many local people drop in while walking their dogs, creating a cheerful space.

Nishihara shopping district is a warm and welcoming place that makes you feel at ease just by walking around, so it's very pleasant to spend some time taking a break here.

An ice cream diner that can be enjoyed by people of all ages
"BIG BABY ICE CREAM" (Shinmaruko, Kanagawa Prefecture)
BIG BABY ICE CREAM, located in Shin-Maruko, Kanagawa Prefecture, is based on the concept of an "ice cream diner."

Inside BIG BABY ICE CREAM (Photo provided by BIG BABY ICE CREAM)
Not only the ice cream, but also the interior, original goods, and Instagram posts are all very cute. As the name "diner" suggests, the atmosphere inside the shop has a pop feel like an American diner. The simple white space is accented with colorful chocolate chip-like patterns on the counter top and Fire King mugs, and the sense of owner Kotaro Yoshida and director Kentaro Yoshida can be seen everywhere.

Also, because the owner wants people of all ages to be able to enjoy ice cream, there are kid-sized ice creams on the menu, which I think is why it's popular with people of all ages.
My favorite is the churro plate. The hot, cinnamon-scented churros are irresistibly delicious when dipped into ice cream.

My favorite ice cream flavors are Rum Cherry and Sakura, which was only available for a limited time in spring. Rum Cherry has a sweet and sour adult taste. It is a combination of sour cherry and mellow milk. Sakura was a surprising flavor with chewy gyuhi inside and salted cherry blossoms on top.

By the way, the cafe "PARLOR NOON" in Meguro is a sister store of BIG BABY ICE CREAM. You can also eat BIG BABY ICE CREAM ice cream there.
Actually, I have a strong attachment to this ice cream shop because I once collaborated with them to make ice cream. At that time, I made two flavors, "Black Sesame Purple Sweet Potato" and "Chai Ginger."
Various flavors and menu items are available not only seasonally but also through collaborations, so be sure to check them out.
