Access to Enoshima
Enoshima is about a 12-minute walk from Katase-Enoshima Station on the Odakyu Line. It is also about a 15-minute walk from Enoshima Station on the Enoshima Electric Railway Line and Shonan Enoshima Station on the Shonan Monorail. There are also direct buses from Haneda Airport to Ofuna, Fujisawa, and Kamakura.
When you think of Enoshima, you think of seafood gourmet!
Enoshima, surrounded by the sea, is an area rich in fresh seafood. There are many restaurants that specialize in seafood dishes, including the Shonan specialty whitebait, and we have picked out popular restaurants serving both Japanese and Western cuisine.
Shimadoji, famous for its seafood bowls, also serves excellent shirasu buns

Just a few seconds walk from the main store of "Enoshima Kaisaku" and "Shirasu Tonya Tobiccho" (mentioned later). When you see a big signboard with a bear illustration, you have arrived at "Shima Warashi Katase Enoshima Main Store." The store is famous for its seafood bowls, but its most famous takeout item is the "Shirasu Man" (500 yen).

The ingredients include whitebait, a Shonan specialty, as well as shrimp, bamboo shoots, Chinese cabbage, and more, and the gentle flavor of the seafood broth is irresistible. It goes well with the soft and fluffy dough made by hand wrapping, giving it an overall gentle flavor.
Other popular items for takeout include "Shirasu Takoyaki" (500 yen), "Shirasu Soft Serve Ice Cream" (400 yen), and "Maguro Doteni" (500 yen), a large tuna stewed in rich miso sauce. There are benches in front of the store, so it's a great place to take a short break.

Kaisaku: Enjoy freshly grilled seafood

Located at the island's gateway, the large, eye-catching three-story store "Enoshima Kaisaku" is a long-established store that started out selling tsubo-yaki turban shells in its current location in 1963, and has been loved for over 60 years.

The menu is different inside and outside the store, and in addition to seafood, a wide variety of items are sold outside the store, such as soft serve ice cream, chilled cucumbers, and drinks. The specialty is grilled seaweed, which is cooked fresh on the spot, and I ordered the grilled squid (950 yen) and scallops (750 yen).

The "whole grilled squid" comes with mayonnaise (+50 yen), which is said to be the perfect match. The plump, fragrant squid is coated in a rich, thick dashi soy sauce sauce, which goes perfectly with the mellow mayonnaise.
The scallops are seasoned with a special dashi and butter, which enhances the concentrated flavor of the shellfish. The location close to the sea and the open atmosphere combine with the delicious taste to make you feel luxurious.
The restaurant has a more extensive menu including seafood bowls and set meals, so if you want a hearty meal, this is the place to go.

Cafe Living Room: Enjoy American-style seafood bowls

There are many seafood bowls in Enoshima, but if you want to enjoy something a little more unusual, we recommend Cafe Living Room. The restaurant is located along Subana Street in front of Enoshima Station on the Enoshima Electric Railway Line. It is an American diner about a one-minute walk south from the station, and the Hawaiian-style local gourmet seafood rice bowl "Poki Don" is a popular dish.

This "Poke Bowl" comes in a medium bowl size (1,300 yen) and a small bowl size (850 yen), and the latter is recommended for eating on the go. It is a colorful dish with marinated tuna and salmon, raw whitebait, spice-marinated shrimp, and diced cucumber on top.

Raw whitebait is a specialty of this restaurant, and is also offered as a "bite-sized raw whitebait" (350 yen) (not available from January 1st to March 10th due to fishing ban). The "poke bowl" made with raw whitebait is unique to Enoshima. The tuna and salmon are seasoned with a sweet and salty soy sauce-based sauce, with a hint of sesame oil flavor. If you like, you can add the special chili sauce to give it a Western ethnic taste.
Other popular items include American food such as hamburgers and tacos, as well as homemade pink lemonade, rich shakes, and sweets such as soft serve ice cream. You can also relax inside the store, so be sure to stop by for a break.

"PIZZERIA & DINING PICO" - Whitebait Pizza, unique to Enoshima

Next, we will introduce "Pizzeria & Dining Pico Enoshima Branch," a pizzeria famous for its pizza and pasta made with plenty of Enoshima ingredients. It is located about a 3-minute walk south from Enoshima Station on the Enoshima Electric Railway Line.

The owner and chef is a pizza craftsman with over 25 years of experience, and the authentic taste created by his skilled techniques is what makes the restaurant so appealing. His experience is especially evident in the dough, which is made using only carefully selected wheat, water, fresh yeast, and rock salt, and the mixture is adjusted according to the temperature, water temperature, and humidity of the day.
Then, each pizza is carefully hand-formed and then placed in a specially made stone oven for pizza, which reaches a high temperature of 500℃. The dough is baked in one go, resulting in a golden and crispy crust and a chewy texture on the inside.

The most popular eat-on-the-go menu item at this restaurant is the "One Hand Pizza," a 13cm diameter pizza that can be carried in one hand. There are many varieties, including the classic "Margherita" (600 yen), but the must-try is the "Shirasu" (650 yen). A generous amount of shirasu is placed on top of tomato sauce and cheese, creating a strong flavor and aroma of the sea.
The cute-looking mini-sized Whitebait Pizza is also a treat that can only be enjoyed at Enoshima.

Boldly colored hot snacks from "Shirasu Tonya Tobiccho"

When asked, "What is the best whitebait shop in Enoshima?", the first name that will likely come up is "Shirasu Tobicho." On the island, there are the "Enoshima Main Store," the "Enoshima Benzaiten Nakamisedori Store," and the sister store "Cafe Tobicho Enoshima Yacht Harbor Store," and all of these stores are crowded with people looking for freshly caught whitebait, which is only available from a wholesaler.

We visited the "Enoshima Benzaiten Nakamisedori Store." The whitebait bowl is popular for eating in, but the "Whitebait Black Croquette" (250 yen) served here and at the main store is a specialty for eating on the go.

As the name suggests, the black color of the ingredients is also a feature of this dish. The potatoes are mixed with mineral-rich bamboo charcoal powder to give them their black color, which is why the whitebait are so visible. The sweet, fluffy flavor is accented by the deep-fried whitebait, and the crispy batter makes a great contrast. It's also reasonably priced, making it a dish you definitely want to try.

"Asahi Honten" - Enoshima's specialty using whole octopus

The next shop we'll introduce is Asahi Main Store, which is also one of Enoshima's most famous shops. It's located on the main street, Enoshima Benzaiten Nakamise Street, just before the vermilion torii gate of Enoshima Shrine. As it's a famous shop, it's not uncommon to see long lines.

The specialty is the "Roasted Octopus Crackers" (500 yen), which are made by baking two or three pieces of fresh octopus in a hot plate press. The octopus is seasoned with a soy sauce base that is slightly spicy, but it is light in flavor to bring out the natural flavor of the ingredients. The octopus is then coated with flour and quickly placed in the press.
Cooking time is about 2 minutes. The heat is 200℃ and pressure is about 1 ton, so the steam rising in front of you and the loud "whoosh" sound are also part of the fun.

The finished whole roasted octopus crackers are so large that they can even hide a face, and they are notable for having a clear octopus mark.
It's crispier than you'd expect, and you can still enjoy the crispy texture even when it cools down. It has a Japanese flavor overall, and the fragrant octopus flavor is exquisite. It's thin and crispy, so be careful not to break it when taking photos.
By the way, there is a takeaway register separate from the long line for eating and walking around, so if you want to buy souvenirs, you can get them right away. We recommend heading there in the morning when it is relatively quiet.

A drink that matches the sea to quench your thirst or accompany your meal
Enoshima has a gentle slope, and the walk to the top, where famous spots such as the Enoshima Sea Candle (observation lighthouse) and the botanical garden Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden are located, is a bit of a mountain climb. If you're thirsty, be sure to refresh yourself with the drinks introduced below. Of course, they're also recommended as snacks to accompany your walk.
Eno Sakaba: A Japanese sake bar where you can enjoy comparing different types of sake

As mentioned at the beginning, Shonan Monorail's Shonan Enoshima Station is a new establishment that opened in January 2025 on the second floor of the building. ENOSHU BAR - Eno Sakaba is the main business of the bar, where you can enjoy sake from various brewers. It is also a hub for sharing information about the Shonan area.

The brands are selected by Aika Sakagami, an expert in sake pairing, and there are always around 20 varieties in stock from around the country. One or two bottles are replaced almost every day, so you can enjoy a variety of flavors every time you visit. Prices start from 1,000 yen per glass for a "1 go mokkiri (morikoboshi)" with a mini snack. There are also plans where you can enjoy a glass in a wine glass for 1,800 yen. It's a nice point that you can easily taste rare premium sake.
There are also "three-kind tasting sets" with themes such as "Niigata Brewery Differences" available from 1,500 yen. For those who want to take their time, the "all-you-can-drink" plan for 120 minutes is a great deal for 3,500 yen.

The snacks are made with local produce from the Shonan area, and the daily small dish costs 500 yen. There are also assorted sets of three kinds for 1,000 yen and five kinds for 1,500 yen. Drinks include local cider and craft beer, so even those who don't like sake are welcome. If you're using the station, be sure to stop by.

A bitter, twilight-like drink that can be enjoyed at places like "Mimachi Yokocho."

At the end of Enoshima Benzaiten Nakamise Street, on your left, you will find Enoshima Mimachi Yokocho. Here, you will find Enoshima Gacha no Shima, a capsule toy store that mainly sells glass crafts, the international goods store Roost Figlet, and Fukushimaya Shop, which sells lucky charms. If you want to take a break during your stroll, be sure to stop by FUKU for an Enoshima beer.
This Enoshima Beer, with its striking light blue label and illustration of a sea turtle, is brewed by the local craft brewery, Kamakura Beer. Another nice touch is that the beer is brewed using water blessed by Enoshima Shrine, which is believed to bring good fortune.

The impressive taste is a dry citrus flavor like grapefruit and a refreshing bitterness. Its juicy yet strong bitterness is unique, making it a true craft beer. The reddish brown color is said to be reminiscent of the setting sun, and it certainly seems like something you'd want to drink at dusk. Of course, it also makes a great souvenir.
By the way, the store also sells its original "Enoshima Gold Cider." Don't miss out on this refreshing drink made with Shonan Gold juice.

Don't miss Enoshima's excellent Japanese and Western sweets!
Enoshima also has many famous sweet shops, which are essential for eating while walking around. Japanese sweets are lined with skilled shops, mainly long-established ones, and the Western sweets are also exquisite, unique to this place. Please stop by after sightseeing in the area or for an afternoon snack.
A new crunchy and sweetly fragrant experience: the enchanting brulée "CREPE STAND Honey"

CREPE STAND HONEY is located on Subana Street in front of Enoshima Station, to the right of the aforementioned Cafe Living Room. Their specialty is a wide variety of crepes and homemade lemonade. There are also table seats inside the store, so you can relax and eat in.
In addition to the classic folded crepes, there are also styles with gorgeously arranged tips. The most popular of these is the "Brulée Crepe," which is coated with sugar on top and roasted until fragrant.

The flavors available are "Marron", "Gelato", "Homemade Apple" (980 yen each) and "Banana" (850 yen), with an additional 10 yen for eat-in. By the way, there are several types of regular crepes starting from 540 yen, and lemonades starting from 580 yen.

The crepes are made with flour from Hokkaido and French Guérande sea salt, and are left to rest overnight to bring out the natural flavor of the ingredients. The crepe is sweet and fragrant, and the crispy surface makes it an excellent choice. The cream inside is not too sweet, and you can enjoy the delicious taste that highlights the characteristics of the moist and elastic dough.
The inside is filled with crispy puffs, and the contrast with the fluffy cream is exquisite. It is also served with sauces that match the menu, so you can enjoy it until the last bite. In any case, if you have never tried brulee crepes, be sure to visit this store when you visit Enoshima.

During the fishing season, they also contain whitebait. "Enokuro" has delicious and unique croissants.

There is a unique croissant specialty store along "Subana Street". Its name is "Enoshima Croissant ENOCRO". Based in Machida, Tokyo, it is a branch of "More than bread, less than cake", and it is proud of its freshly baked croissants that are completely additive-free and are "crispy, chewy, and juicy".

Its characteristic is the rich texture and flavor of the dough, which is made from 100% strong flour "Yumechikara" produced in Tokachi, Hokkaido, fermented with natural yeast and baked using plenty of domestically produced fermented butter. The classic "Plain" (360 yen) is a must-try, but the "An Butter Croissant" is also not to be missed.

This is an exquisite combination of bean paste from a bean paste factory in Odawara that has been in business for nearly 80 years and slices of domestically produced fermented butter. The crispy croissant, the warm and sweet bean paste, and the milky, mildly salty butter create a delicious trio.

In addition, during the whitebait fishing season, there are meal options such as the "Shonan Shirasu Croissant" (580 yen) and the "Shonan Shirasu Cheese Croissant" (600 yen), so be sure to try these when the season is in full swing. We also recommend the creamy and rich "Shiranami Mizushibire Yogurt" that is sold together with the croissants.

Inoue Souhonpo: Choose your fillings and enjoy combining them

Founded in 1925, Inoue Souhonpo is a Japanese sweets store located along Enoshima Benzaiten Nakamise Street. Its two major specialties are the "Kaimonaka" (shellfish buns) that stand out with their unique Enoshima shape, and the "Meoto Manju" (husband and wife buns) that come in a set of two colors, white and brown.
And for this food tour, I would like to introduce "Ice Monaka," which is a crispy Monaka with sweet bean paste and ice cream, although it has a different shape from "Kai Monaka." Takeout is 400 yen, and eat-in is 500 yen with tea, so I ordered it in.

The ice cream comes in matcha, red bean paste, and vanilla flavors. There are several types of bean paste, including tsubuan, smooth bean paste, and no bean paste, so you can enjoy different combinations. You can also choose seasonal flavors for the ice cream. On this day, I ordered matcha ice cream with tsubuan.

As expected from a Japanese sweets shop, the deliciousness of the monaka and bean paste is exceptional. The crispy dough and the exquisite sweetness that makes the most of the red beans are irresistible. The matcha ice cream also has a sweetness with just the right amount of bitterness, and the contrast with the crunchy monaka is blissful. If you visit with a group, be sure to try them all and compare them.

"Enoshima Pudding" is a new local sweet created by a famous craftsman

Enoshima Pudding is located along Subana Street, which runs south from Enoshima Station on the Enoshima Electric Railway Line. Although it is a relatively new shop, having been established in 2019, it has attracted attention as Enoshima's first pudding specialty store. It is made by a local milled barley manufacturer, and its most distinctive feature is that it uses "mugikogashi," a healthy ingredient made by roasting and grinding barley.

They offer three regular flavors of their popular puddings: the smooth "Enoshima Pudding" (400 yen), the "Enoshima Pudding Orzo" (400 yen) topped with a jelly made from orzo, a type of dark roasted barley, and the firm "Enoshima Pudding Retro" (400 yen). In addition to the standard and orzo flavors, they also offer a large "Lighthouse Pudding" (both 600 yen).

Not only the ingredients but also the recipes are special, and this shop is produced by Chef Tokoro Hiroshi, who created the "Pastel" pudding, said to be the originator of smooth puddings. Each pudding has a highly original taste, with the fragrant roasted flavor of the "roasted barley" creating a unique slightly sweet flavor. Each pudding has a strong personality, and it is no wonder that it is said to be Enoshima's new local sweet.
In addition to pudding, other popular menu items include "Pudding Soft Serve," "Mugi Kogashi Soft Serve" (both 400 yen) and "Orzo Tea." We recommend buying these items together.

Enoshima Cafe: Bitter and Milky Sweets for Adults

Near the entrance to the island is the "Enoshima Island Spa," which features hot springs and a restaurant, and the most popular menu item at the "Enoshima Cafe" on the first floor is the "Enoshima Coffee Soft Serve" (500 yen). The restaurant and cafe are open to the public, even if you are not using the hot spring baths. The menu at Enoshima Cafe is also recommended for eating while walking around.

The base of the drink, "Enoshima Coffee," is an original blend made from coffee beans that have ripened on the tree, and is characterized by its deep richness and bitterness, which is achieved by slowly brewing the coffee over time. "Enoshima Coffee Soft Serve" is made by combining this coffee with milk and other ingredients and enjoying it in a waffle cone.

The bitterness of the coffee harmonizes with the milky mellowness, and the bitterness of the coffee powder is a nice accent. It has a refined taste that is not too sweet, and is loved by everyone, and is a delicious taste that you will never get tired of. It is a must-try for soft serve ice cream lovers, and coffee lovers too.

Kinokuniya Main Store: A must-try for its rare, completely handmade dough and filling

Among the many shops in Enoshima, one that can be said to be particularly long-established is Kinokuniya Main Store along Enoshima Benzaiten Nakamise Street. Founded in 1789 as an inn, it later began making manju and became a Japanese confectionery store.
There are many specialties, such as the small "Enoshima Monaka" (3 pieces for 640 yen) in the shape of a turban shell, clam, or scallop, the "Ice Monaka" (370 yen) made with these, and the "Enoshima Dorayaki" (240 yen) branded with the Mitsuuroko crest of Enoshima Shrine. The "Meoto Manju" is one of the most recommended.

The shop does not rely on machines, but instead makes full use of the skills of its artisans to knead the bean paste by hand. It seems that bean paste made this way is almost nonexistent in the Tokyo and Kanagawa areas, and the shop's motto is to also make the manju skins by hand.

These "Meoto Manju" are available from 150 yen each, and a box of six, which makes a great gift, is available from 920 yen. The brown one is a manju with bean paste wrapped in a dough made with brown sugar syrup, and the white one is a sake manju made with smooth bean paste, making it a fun set to compare the two. There are benches outside where you can sit and relax while you eat.

Nakamuraya Yokan Shop, the originator of Enoshima's famous confectionery "Nori Yokan"

On the other side of the hill at the top of Enoshima, near Yamafutatsu, a tourist spot with a great view, is Nakamuraya Yokanten. This shop also has a long history, having been founded in 1902. The third-generation owner, who ran a candy store, had the idea of putting seaweed that grows on the rocks of Enoshima into yokan, and created Nori Yokan (called Benten Nori Yakan at the time), which has now become a famous confectionery that represents Enoshima.

The storefront is lined with a wide variety of yokan and Japanese sweets, including "Nori Yokan." Old photographs and signs that evoke history are on display, including some shots of famous people from the past visiting the store. You'll never get bored just looking at them.

The "Nori Yokan" comes in a wide variety of sizes, with the smallest starting at 250 yen. The flavor of the highest quality white bean paste mixed with a moderate amount of green nori seaweed is impressive with its fragrant, green, refreshing taste, and is unlike any other.
In front of the store is a teahouse that was renovated in 2020 from a building that is over 100 years old, where you can leisurely savor a variety of Japanese sweets. It's a bit of a walk from the entrance to Enoshima, but the taste and atmosphere here are truly special. It's a place worth visiting if you're out strolling around.
