The last place I'd like to introduce is Goryokaku. It's really beautiful when you see it in person! And the cherry blossoms have just bloomed. I visited a Hakodate Yakisoba and sandwich specialty shop at the star-shaped Goryokaku, a famous cherry blossom spot representing Japan.
"Goryokaku", a tower stretching into the blue sky.
Goryokaku is a historical spot that represents Hakodate. It was originally a castle, but later became the Hakodate Magistrate's Office. During the Hakodate War, it also served as the headquarters of the former Shogunate army. Although its use has changed over the years, it has been used for many years as the political center of Hakodate.
Today, the historical sites remain within the large park, and the area is a popular tourist destination and place of relaxation for local residents, with attractions such as Goryokaku Tower and surrounding restaurants.
From Goryokaku Park Station to Goryokaku Tower. It was a beautiful sunny day.
It's a famous cherry blossom spot! A few days later, the cherry blossoms reached full bloom.
The star-shaped Goryokaku Tower and cherry blossoms are a great spot to take photos side by side.
"Mojoji Temple" is located next to "Goryokaku". The red roof is nice. The temple has a unique shape.
Foreign tourists take commemorative photos under the cherry blossom trees. This is a popular spot for tourists.
Cherry trees are planted in a star shape along the moat.
"Hakodate Magistrate's Office." In 1869, when Ezo became Hokkaido, the place name "Hakodate" was changed to "Hakodate."
When the building was restored, the same red roofing tiles as used at the time were ordered from Hokuriku. The four colors of the roofing tiles express the uneven coloring of the roofing when it was fired in climbing kilns.
The tower is also very impressive. It is said that the harbor was monitored from here.
Not only has it been the site of various events and important conferences, but it has also been a place that has witnessed a wide range of history, both domestically and internationally, including diplomacy.
There are also earthworks and stone walls. They are firmly built with no gaps.
Crescent Fort. For defensive purposes, the second level juts out from the top to prevent intrusion. This also shows that it was a castle built for fighting.
It looks like a trapezoid when seen from the front. It's in a place that you might easily overlook, so be sure to check it out.
Goryokaku Tower is a symbolic tower from which you can get a bird's-eye view of the star-shaped Goryokaku.
Goryokaku Park is a place of relaxation for locals, with plenty of greenery and colorful scenery throughout the seasons.
Choose your own bread and toppings to make your own sandwich! Specialty store "Gourmand Canta"
Gourmand Canta is a luxurious sandwich shop where you can choose from 12 different types of freshly baked bread and garni (sandwich fillings) to combine with your choice of sandwiches.
You can choose from a variety of breads, including gratin bread made with crispy croissants, warm tart-style bread, baguette, bread roll, and ciabatta, and have your sandwich sandwiched with a combination of cheese, chicken, avocado, salmon, and other ingredients. You can also choose your sauce to create an original sandwich!
There is a store in the Kanamori Warehouse on the bayside, but the main store in Goryokaku has a wider variety of products. It is a little far from the Goryokaku Koen-mae tram stop, but it is worth the trip.
Gourmand Canta is a sandwich specialty shop located a short walk from Goryokaku Koenmae tram stop.
It is a stylish cafe with terrace seating.
The bread is baked in-house and you can enjoy sandwiches of any combination you like.
First, choose bread from six types...
Choose one of 12 types of filling (garni) and also choose from five types of sauce.
They also have baked goods and other souvenirs and snacks available for purchase.
It might be a good idea to stop by before going to Goryokaku.
There are 400 possible combinations! I chose brioche with shrimp avocado and croissant gratin.
Incredibly crispy croissants topped with plenty of cheese and bechamel sauce.
The sandwich was stuffed from end to end with the recommended basil sauce.
There is a branch at Kanamori Warehouse, but the main store at Goryokaku Koenmae Station has a wider variety.
Stir-fried and stewed!? What is the true nature of the yakisoba that is a Hakodate tradition?
If I went to the Goryokaku area, I would definitely like to stop by this restaurant. It's a Chinese restaurant called "Ajitaka." I had heard that there is something called "Hakodate Yakisoba" in Hakodate, even though it is not clearly established, and I was interested in it.
The yakisoba at "Ajitaka" near "Goryokaku Tower" is called "Ajitaka-style yakisoba" and is a tonkotsu soup that tastes similar to Hakata-style yakisoba. It's also fun to add sauce to change the flavor halfway through.
Although it varies slightly from restaurant to restaurant, they all seem to serve the same soupy style.
"Ajitaka" is a very friendly restaurant with an atmosphere that makes you want to go there every day. Their salt ramen is also popular. It's a restaurant loved by locals!
Ajitaka-style yakisoba topped with a soft-boiled egg. Hakodate yakisoba is drenched in soup.
Very close to Goryokaku Park.
There were a variety of Chinese dishes on the menu, and it was impressive to see how carefully they prepared each dish.
Yakisoba is similar to ramen, but if you add sauce to change the flavor halfway through, it becomes even more spicy and delicious.
Hakodate is a condensed city. I want to walk a lot, ride the tram and enjoy the various scenery.
A trip to Hakodate before the long weekend. A lot of the town's appearance from the Meiji period still remains.
Hakodate has been hit by fires many times, but it has been restored, rebuilt, and lovingly built by people who made their fortunes through commerce and shipping.
By incorporating various cultures through the sea, a landscape with an exotic atmosphere was created.
The coming season is the perfect time to visit Hakodate! Why not visit Hakodate and feel the pleasant sea breeze?
Although the weather was unfortunate, let's climb Mount Hakodate.
Ah! This is the night view I've seen in magazines and on TV. A panoramic view of Hakodate! It was very crowded at the top, so make sure you allow plenty of time to get up there.
