2017年（平成29）3月4日開館。西南雄藩のひとつ、土佐藩の歴史資料や絢爛たる大名道具の数々を中心に高知の歴史・文化を紹介する本格的な博物館。
体験型の展示や映像などで、大人から子どもまで楽しみながら歴史を学ぶことができるほか、年間を通して多彩な企画展や講座・催し物を開催。来館のたびに新たな土佐の歴史文化の魅力を体感できます。
迫力ある高知城の姿を目の前にのぞむ展望ロビーは必見。日曜市やひろめ市場で賑わう中心商店街にも隣接、博物館とあわせて城下町をまるごと楽しむことができます。
