Plenty of fruit! Handmade fruit sandwiches at "Matoi - Yamagata store"
"Matoi - Yamagata Store" is a fruit sandwich specialty store that opened in Kiyozumi-machi, Yamagata City in May 2023. Its popular sandwiches are visually impressive and made with plenty of seasonal fruits.

The fruit sandwiches are handmade one by one by the staff and made with lots of love. There are often long queues on weekends!

The display case is filled with colorful fruit sandwiches lined up in rows, and just looking at them is exciting! There are always about 20 different types of sandwiches in stock, made with seasonal fruits, red bean paste, daifuku, and more.

The classic "Strawberry Sandwich" is a favorite of everyone. Since they use seasonal strawberries, they are very sour in the summer and sweet in the winter.
It has just the right balance of moderate acidity and gentle sweetness, and with strawberries all the way to the edge, it's a taste of happiness until the last bite.

The juicy "Orange" has a great impact when viewed in cross section! The fresh cream has a light and fluffy texture. The lightly sweetened cream brings out the rich flavor of the orange.

The Mont Blanc is made up of two layers of white bean paste and fresh cream, and has a rich, elegant taste. The chunks of chestnuts are gently sweet and fluffy, and there are also chopped chestnuts in the cream, so it feels just like eating Mont Blanc.

The bread is soft and chewy with a hint of sweetness, which, combined with the sour fresh cream, brings out the deliciousness of the fruit even more.
These fruit sandwiches look gorgeous too. Try them out as a snack or for breakfast when you feel a bit hungry during your trip to Yamagata.

"Cold Ramen (900 yen)" is often thought of as something you can only eat in the summer, but here it is served all year round. The clear soup is topped with a generous amount of ice, making it look refreshing as well.

The ice-cold soup is refreshing and slightly sour. The ingredients are pork fillets, seaweed, bamboo shoots, cucumber, and white wood ear mushrooms. The pork fillets are moist with little fat, and the crunchy white wood ear mushrooms dance lightly in your mouth.

The thin, curly noodles are a nostalgic, classic Chinese noodle with a smooth, refreshing texture that goes down smoothly! It's full of vegetables and the noodles are voluminous, so it's sure to satisfy your appetite.

The "Geso Ten Mori" (900 yen), which is enjoyed together with the squid tempura, is also one of Yamagata's specialties. The crispy batter and chewy squid can be eaten as is or with soba noodles. The more you chew it, the more flavorful it becomes.

The freshly boiled soba noodles have a rich flavor that stands up to the broth. The fragrant, crisp soba noodles are delicious even after you've finished eating them.
