There are several popular shopping streets in Tokyo where you can go for a stroll and eat, but Ota Ward has the most of them, with 140. The largest of these is Zoshiki Shopping Street, located here in Zoshiki.
Most of the people who visit are not tourists, but local residents. Because it is such a local-oriented shopping street, there are many famous gourmet foods that are not often posted on social media. Let's go and find the "delicious foods" of Zoshiki right away!

*All prices include tax.
*We do not recommend eating while walking. Please stop and eat in the eat-in space of the store or in a place where you will not obstruct passersby.

JAL staff searching for delicious food in Zoshiki...
JAL Brand Communications Otani
I love airplanes, eating out, and shopping streets!
Her criterion for choosing a home is that there must be a shopping street nearby. She is really drawn to the "lifestyle atmosphere" that this town exudes!

Just a short walk from Haneda Airport. Head to Zoshiki Shopping Street, packed with the charm of "Tokyo locals"!
Zoshiki Station is about 15 minutes from Haneda Airport on the Keikyu Main Line. When you leave the station, Zoshiki Shopping Arcade is right in front of you. The atmosphere is one of liveliness and nostalgia, just like a "local Tokyo." The arcade is full of downtown atmosphere and will lift your spirits right away!

"It's convenient and close to the station! The shopping street is a part of the daily life of the people who live in this town, and it's on their way home. It's kind of exciting." (Otani, same below)

"I like the signs in shopping districts because they show individuality."
Zoshiki Shopping Street is a historic shopping street that has been in operation since 1948. It stretches from the front of the station to the east and west, and is lined with about 200 stores, from groceries and daily necessities to restaurants and izakayas. There is a particularly wide selection of takeout side dishes! The "local flavors" that support the local dining tables are a travel gourmet experience that you can only find here.
Hot and crispy! Take a bite of freshly fried food | Marumi Foods

I arrived at the shopping arcade just before noon. As I was strolling through the arcade, the delicious smells wafting through the air made me hungry...
As I walked to the intersection, I discovered a shop that caught my eye!

"It smells delicious, freshly fried!"
The store is lined with pre-packaged fried chicken, shumai, and gyoza.
Marumi Foods is a shop that catches your eye not only for its delicious looking side dishes but also for its spectacularly displayed fresh meats.

The words "Hot fries always ready" are also interesting. Enjoying freshly made food is the best part of eating on the go! Don't hesitate to order!

"Even old, handwritten posters have a certain charm to them."
A box of four fried chicken pieces is surprisingly affordable at just 110 yen. Start here!

"The fried chicken looks so juicy, let's eat it!"

"This soy sauce-based seasoning brings back memories...!"

Next, I ordered a ham cutlet, which was only 60 yen each! After the order was placed, it was fried right in front of me.

When asked about recommended dishes, the friendly shop assistant replied, "Ham cutlets, croquettes, and minced meat cutlets are popular." Apparently, ham cutlets are often purchased by children on their way home from school or cram school.

"There's nothing better than having freshly fried ham cutlets on the way home from school!"

"Hot and fresh! The large pieces of batter are crispy and delicious!"
It wasn't oily at all, so I finished it all in one go.

On the second floor, there is a restaurant that serves pork cutlets, Western food, steak, curry, etc. I'd like to come back next time for a leisurely meal!

A coffee stand run by a coffee-loving couple | CROSS Coffee Bean Shop

"I also like the relaxing background music that plays in the shopping district."
Zoshigaya Shopping Arcade has a retro and nostalgic atmosphere that never gets old, but there are also a few new shops here and there.
It was a lovely day, and I started to sweat a little as I walked. I decided to refresh myself with a cold drink, so I stopped at a cute coffee stand.

"CROSS Coffee Bean Shop" opened in March 2022. The coffee-loving husband opened the shop while working at a company. On the day we visited, his wife was at the shop. They offer a selection of carefully roasted beans, and will explain their recommendations to you in detail.
What caught my attention was the unfamiliar "Espresso Tonic" menu item. As the name suggests, it is a combination of espresso and tonic water, and is only available during the summer.

"I've never tried it, so I'd love to try it!"

Pour espresso into tonic water with plenty of ice to complete the drink.

"We use several different kinds of espresso beans, carefully selecting those that go well with tonic," says the wife.

So, how does it taste?

"It's refreshing and delicious! It's so refreshing you can gulp it down."
The citrus flavor of the tonic water and the sharp bitterness of the coffee go perfectly together. It's a recommended drink that you'll reach for in the hot season! Be sure to try it while touring Zoshiki.

A hearty oden dish with plenty of dashi stock that has been loved by generations | Meguro Foods
Leaving CROSS Coffee Bean Shop behind, we headed through Zoshigaya Shopping Arcade and across a large railroad crossing.
Further ahead we found a bright orange awning, a red curtain, and the word "Oden" written on it!

Meguro Foods is a takeaway oden specialty store. The gentle aroma of dashi wafting from a large oden pot is so relaxing.
He is the second generation owner, having taken over the business from his parents. The shop has a history of over 40 years, and some customers have been coming for three generations!

"There are so many different oden options, it's hard to decide which one to choose!"
"We use dried sardines, shiitake mushrooms, and dried bonito flakes for the soup stock, and we change it every day," says the owner of the shop. The ingredients for the oden are sourced from Ota Market. They are all large and look very delicious!

It comes with a whole ball of shirataki noodles!

Starting at 50 yen each. A very reasonable price considering the size.
There was a standing area in front of the shop, so we decided to eat there. The mother's consideration was heartwarming, as she warned us not to get our clothes dirty.

"I'll enjoy having this!"

"The broth is so delicious! It really soothes your tired body..."
All the oden ingredients are well seasoned and irresistible! You can enjoy different flavors by adding mustard or homemade miso sauce. The most popular are the standard dishes such as daikon radish, kelp, and egg.

"I was curious about the oden ingredient called 'suji' so I ordered it. What is it?" (Photo top right)
When you hear the word "suji" in oden, many people may think of beef tendon, but my mother told me, "In the Kanto region, suji is a fish paste made from minced shark meat."
Another oden ingredient unique to the Kanto region is chikuwabu. If you want to taste "Tokyo local," you should definitely order this!

From main dishes to fries that you can easily pick up! | Delica King
After enjoying the hearty oden, my stomach was pretty full. As I headed back towards Zoshiki Station, I wanted to have a few more snacks, so I went for a walk around Zoshiki Shopping Arcade again.
Finally, we will stop at Delica King, a popular store at the eastern end of the shopping street that is often featured in the media.

"The side dishes are neatly stacked. A beautiful display...!" I couldn't help but take a picture!
You'll be amazed by the wide variety of dishes on offer, from hearty meat dishes that will take center stage at the dinner table to bite-sized fries.

The deep-fried chicken on the bone is a very popular menu item. The grilled thighs and grilled tebayaki are "various flavors" that have been popular since the restaurant first opened.
This time, I ordered the "Cheese Roll" and "Corn Croquette," which are perfect for a casual snack to eat on the go.

"Cheese rolls look similar to spring rolls."

"When you eat it, it has a gentle texture that is different from spring rolls! It's delicious with lots of creamy cheese."

Three corn croquettes are just 120 yen. Great for sharing with a group!
Delica King's fries are light and crispy. Although this was our fourth visit that day, we ate them all up in no time! The staff were completely satisfied in both body and mind as they headed home.

Even if it's your first time here, you'll feel at home. Enjoy the local cuisine and atmosphere of the town!

"This was my first time in Zoshigaya, but right from the start I felt like I was at home! Everyone in the town was very friendly and kind. This time I visited on a weekday lunchtime, but I think you can experience a different charm if you come on the weekend or in the evening," said Otani, a shopping street enthusiast, and was very satisfied with the first installment of this series.
Zoshiki is full of hearty and reasonably priced gourmet food. Even on weekdays, there are many people and bicycles passing by, and the lively local atmosphere is wonderful! Please come and enjoy this "Tokyo local" restaurant, located 15 minutes from Haneda Airport.
Please look forward to the next "JAL Gourmet Food Club" activity!
