[Accommodations where you can enjoy a stay-at-home trip]
The appeal of staying at home
Enjoy meals in your room, and enjoy your private open-air bath whenever you want. The appeal of "stay-at-home travel" is being able to spend such luxurious time just for yourself. What's more, it allows you to minimize contact with other people, so it's once again drawing attention as a way of traveling in the future.

Spending time by yourself without being disturbed by anyone is the ultimate relaxation and a precious time to face yourself. Read a book, savor the local food, or admire the scenery. The view from your room is especially important, and it can become a new purpose for your trip: "I want to stay in just to enjoy this view."
Furthermore, if you choose a room with a bath attached, you can enjoy the bliss of soaking in the bath whenever you want, for as long as you like. Bath time while looking at the scenery or reading a book is the ultimate reward for yourself.
Why not try a self-isolation trip to soothe yourself and rediscover yourself?
[Unzen Onsen Higashien] Relax and unwind amid the blessings of nature

About 1 hour and 15 minutes by car from Nagasaki city. Unzen Onsen is located on a mountain at an altitude of 700m on the Shimabara Peninsula. During the Meiji period, it was a popular summer resort, attracting many foreign visitors, including British people. In 1934, it was designated as Japan's first national park, and the untouched nature managed by the Ministry of the Environment is also an attraction.

Located along the shore of Oshidori Pond, Unzen Onsen Azumaen offers lake views from all rooms. You can immerse yourself in the great outdoors, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city.

We arrived at the red-roofed East Garden. From the spacious lobby, you can see the well-maintained Japanese garden and the Oshidori Pond beyond. First, let's take our time enjoying the view while sipping the welcome drink of matcha.

In the garden, you can see the "Miyama Kirishima" (best seen in May) which blooms with small pink flowers. In early summer, you will be greeted by the cute white "Kousa Dogwood". What appears to be a white flower is actually a "bract." In other words, it is the calyx part of the leaf. In autumn, it will bear red berries.
There are also other seasonal flowers and trees such as hydrangeas and maples, making it a great place for a short stroll.

The perfect room for a stay-at-home is the "Riyu" room with an open-air bath. The first thing that strikes you when you enter the room is the lush greenery and the beautiful lakeside. You'll be moved by the beautiful natural scenery, which will take your breath away. And the most comfortable thing about it is the silence. It's the perfect place to stay and read a book.

Reading is best done in bed. Lying on the twin bed, reading a story in silence. The occasional sound of wild birds, the sound of fish jumping on the lake... Just spacing out and doing nothing is also an important form of relaxation. It's easy to doze off to the background music of nature.

Unzen Onsen is a sulfur spring. It is known for its skin-beautifying properties, especially as it contains metasilicic acid. As it also contains a lot of iron, be sure to remove any metal objects such as rings and necklaces before bathing. In return, you can enjoy the change to smoother skin. The East Garden has its own hot spring source, which gushes out at about 55 degrees. As it flows to the bath, it cools naturally, reaching the perfect temperature of 41-42 degrees.

You can spend an unparalleled relaxing time in the hot spring water straight from the source and with the cool breeze from the lakeside.

The dinner is a kaiseki meal featuring the bounty of the Shimabara Peninsula. Of course, you can enjoy it in the comfort of your own room.
Starting with homemade plum wine, fresh ginger from the Shimabara Peninsula, original dried mullet roe, conger eel from Tachibana Bay, special grilled sweetfish marinated in saikyo miso, and grilled Nagasaki beef loin, the local ingredients and high-quality delicacies will leave you sighing. The vichyssoise, made with asparagus, which is in season around early summer, and potatoes from Shimabara, the second largest producer in the country, is chilled on ice and is an amazing dish in which only the natural sweetness reaches the tongue. The green of the asparagus is so pretty that you can't help but take a photo. Another attraction of Azumaen is the beautiful presentation, which is a feast for the eyes as well. Chef Inoue Tsukasa has experience as a sushi chef. If you also stuff your cheeks with freshly made sushi, you're sure to experience a delicious dinner.

After dinner, we went to the bath again. As I watched the sky change color by the minute, I noticed a star-filled sky above the lakeside, where there were no street lights. I enjoyed stargazing while being watched by the twinkling stars. Then it was time to read again. One of the great things about staying indoors is that you can fall asleep while reading a book.

Waking up to the soothing sounds of wild birds is a special experience. Soak in the open-air bath right from your bed, slowly and thoroughly waking up your whole body. What a luxury... And dragonflies approach and then fly away again. Just watching such natural activities is soothing. We also recommend morning yoga on the open terrace. Please bring your yoga mat.
There is a walking path around Oshidori Pond, which can be walked around in about 40 minutes. We recommend taking a morning walk while observing nature, such as the calls of wild birds and the sight of fish jumping. It is also nice to have breakfast after washing off your sweat in the bath.

Well, after the meal, you'll want to have some coffee. The room comes equipped with a special tap that draws Unzen spring water, and you can enjoy drip coffee using this mineral-rich water. Check-out is at 11:00. Enjoy your time here until the last minute while sipping on some Unzen coffee.
Unzen Onsen was loved by foreigners as a summer resort. Unzen offered an environment in which to love the nature of the national park, the delicious food of the Shimabara Peninsula, and love yourself.
COVID-19 Countermeasures
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, alcohol-based disinfectants have been placed in common areas such as the entrance and elevators at the East Garden. Of course, shared areas are also regularly disinfected.

For dinner, we are offering in-room or private dining wherever possible, and the number of times kaiseki cuisine is served is reduced. Plastic sheets have been installed on the front counter, and we are providing service with social distancing in mind in each location.
