Wakimachi Udatsu Streetscape
Wakimachi, Mima City, is known for its old-fashioned streets lined with udatsu, a traditional Japanese stilt that once prospered with indigo merchants. You can enjoy the different charms of each house, including the Yoshida Family Residence, which hosts various special exhibitions, Jidai-ya, which displays and sells bamboo crafts, and sweet shops and souvenir shops. In addition, at the Mima City Tourism Exchange Center next to the Yoshida Family Residence, you can experience traditional crafts such as making Japanese umbrellas and indigo dyeing. We also recommend sightseeing guided by local volunteer guides.
