Matsuyama City is rich in cultural attractions, and is known as a "city of hot springs, castles, and literature," thanks to hot springs such as Dogo Onsen, said to be the oldest hot spring in Japan, Matsuyama Castle, which has a castle tower that dates back to the Edo period and is one of the few remaining in Japan, and the home of Masaoka Shiki, who laid the foundation for modern haiku.

Dogo Onsen Main Building
Boasting a history of around 3,000 years, this is the symbol of Dogo Onsen, said to be the oldest in Japan. It was the first public bathhouse in Japan to be designated an Important Cultural Property and has been awarded three stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan. Preservation and repair work has been carried out since January 15, 2019, but visitors can still bathe and enjoy the free-flowing hot spring water. Using the north entrance that was used in 1894, you can experience the feeling of bathing in those days, which is only available during the construction period.
