JAL Card's "Miles Trip": A slightly luxurious solo trip to Okinawa in the spring

Many people think of miles as something to accumulate over time and then exchange for reward tickets once every few years. However, in this cashless era, by using a JAL card with a credit function in your daily life, you can enjoy "mile travel" more conveniently and advantageously, and some people can enjoy it more than once a year.
画像: JALカードの「マイル旅」:春の沖縄ちょっと贅沢ひとり旅編

So, this time, we will propose a "Spring Okinawa Women's Solo Mile Trip" from among the various situations of mile trips using JAL Card. We will introduce the appeal of JAL Card and how to use it by dividing it into the scenes of before, during, and after the trip.

*Due to the influence of the new coronavirus, business days and business hours of each spot may be changed.

<Before the trip> Use your JAL Card to make travel arrangements

The JAL Card is a JAL Mileage Bank card with a credit function that makes it easy to accumulate miles. You can also enjoy extraordinary "mileage trips" by exchanging the miles you accumulate in your daily life for reward tickets.

Now, before you set off on your miles journey, use your JAL Card to arrange your transportation.

Exchange your miles for reward tickets!

This time, I'm traveling to Okinawa, so I'll be using Naha Airport in Okinawa. I'll be using my miles to get a reward ticket from Tokyo (Haneda) to Okinawa (Naha).

The number of miles required to redeem for an award ticket between Tokyo (Haneda) and Okinawa (Naha) is as follows. If you want to feel luxurious on board, we recommend exchanging for a Class J award ticket, which offers spacious seats for a relaxing stay.

Tokyo (Haneda) - Okinawa (Naha) Mileage requirements for an award ticket
(As of February 2021)
<Regular seat award ticket>
Round trip (2 sectors): 15,000 miles
One way (1 sector): 7,500 miles
<Class J Award Tickets>
One way (1 sector): plus 2,000 miles per person

Award tickets can be applied for on the JAL website or by phone. The application period runs from 9:30 (Japan time) 330 days prior to the departure date to the day before the departure date (Japan time).

This time, I will be using reward tickets for both the outbound and return trip, so I will exchange the 15,000 miles I have accumulated on my JAL Card for reward tickets.

If the return flight is before the reservation start date, you cannot reserve the round trip at the same time. Either reserve both the round trip after the reservation start date, or reserve the outbound and return flights separately.

Easily reserve your Times Car Rental with "JAL Pitto Go"

JAL Card offers a wide range of convenient services before your trip. This time, I used the "JAL Pitto Go" service to get around various places by rental car after arriving at the destination.

画像: 「JALピッとGo」でタイムズカーレンタルを簡単予約

JAL Pitto Go is a service that allows you to complete departure procedures at participating Times Car Rental locations by simply touching your JAL Card or JAL Mileage Bank Card (with IC function) to the card reader installed on the counter.

You can use the service by registering as a member of Times Car Share (there is a membership card issuance fee of 1,650 yen (tax included) when joining, and a monthly basic fee of 880 yen (tax included) for the individual plan). You can also give prior consent to registering your JAL card on the Times Car Rental website and linking your JAL card to the service at a store that accepts the procedure.

Before you leave, you can register your JAL Card at a Times Car Rental store near the airport and reserve and pay for your rental car, eliminating the hassle of having to go through the hassle of paperwork once you're there.

What's more, Times Car Rental is a "JAL Card authorized dealer." By paying with your JAL Card, you can earn twice the usual number of miles, making your trip smart and affordable.

JAL Pitto Go

<During the trip> Enjoy a luxurious trip with the savings you make. Plus, earn miles with your JAL card!

Finally, the spring trip to Okinawa has begun. The best part of using miles to travel is that you can save on airfare with miles and experience a little more luxury than usual, delicious food, and activities. Enjoy the luxury to the fullest by yourself without any worries.

Here, we will tell you about the points that are only available with JAL Card Miles Trips, which is different from regular miles trips. If you use your JAL Card to pay for things during your trip, you can earn miles. In other words, if you are at a spot where you can use a credit card, it is more advantageous to pay with your JAL Card.

Furthermore, if you shop at a "JAL Card affiliated store," you can earn double the miles. If you can earn miles for your next trip while you're traveling, it's definitely something you'll want to take advantage of. There are also some spots where you can get a discount by showing your JAL Card, so keep an eye out for them.

So, let's take a tour of Okinawa's best spots to see where you can use your JAL card.

Arrived at Naha Airport. Start your trip by renting a car smoothly with your JAL Card.

Image 1: Arriving at Naha Airport. Rent a car smoothly with your JAL Card and start your trip.

I headed to Naha Airport on an award ticket redeemed from my miles. Feeling the extraordinary warmth typical of spring in Okinawa, I first boarded the free shuttle bus at Times Car Rental and headed to the rental car office.

Image 2: Arriving at Naha Airport. Rent a car smoothly with your JAL Card and start your trip.

Take the shuttle bus from Naha Airport and arrive at Times Car Naha Airport in about 5 minutes.

Normally, the rental car process takes a surprisingly long time, as you have to show your driver's license, go through a detailed explanation of important points, etc. However, since I made the reservation using JAL Pitto Go, I only had to touch my JAL card to the card reader at the reception counter at the store, and the process was complete.

Image 3: Arriving at Naha Airport. Rent a car smoothly with your JAL Card and start your trip.

Not only can you earn miles at a great value, but you can also make rental car procedures convenient and smart, so if you want to have as much time as possible to enjoy your trip, be sure to use JAL Pitto Go.

Stop by Okinawa's popular "Roadside Station Kyoda" to satisfy your hunger

Image 1: Stop by Okinawa's popular "Roadside Station Kyoda" to satisfy your hunger

From Naha Airport, it takes about an hour via the Okinawa Expressway in a rental car. If you're feeling a bit hungry, stop by the Kyoda Roadside Station, located just past the Kyoda Interchange at the end of the road.

Since opening in 1994 as Okinawa Prefecture's first roadside station, it has been ranked high many times, including most recently as number one in 2020 in a travel information site's national roadside station ranking, and is extremely popular with tourists and locals alike.

At the main facility, the Yanbaru Products Center, there is a wide selection of souvenirs on display. There are corners for local specialties from the northern part of Okinawa's main island and the surrounding islands, and there is so much to choose from that you'll be spoilt for choice.

The store offers not only processed foods such as sweets and seasonings, but also fresh tropical fruits and vegetables. The seasonal produce delivered directly from the producers is perfect as a souvenir.

Delivery by courier is also available, so if you want to get your hands on local foods, we recommend searching here. Of course, you can pay by credit card, so please use your JAL card.

Additionally, there are parlours lined up in front of the store where you can easily enjoy local delicacies such as sata andagi, Okinawa soba, and tacos.

If you're feeling a bit hungry, fill up on some sata andagi (starting at 90 yen each) at Mitsuya before heading to your next destination!

Relax in Okinawa's nature on the beautiful beaches of Kouri Island

Image 1: Become soothed by Okinawa's nature on Kouri Island, a beautiful island with beautiful beaches
Image 2: Be comforted by Okinawa's nature on Kouri Island, with its beautiful beaches

Kouri Island is a small island connected to Yagaji Island in Nago City by the 1,960-meter-long Kouri Bridge. As an isolated island that can be easily visited by car, it is one of Okinawa's most famous driving spots, along with the Kouri Bridge.

Furthermore, there is a road park at the foot of the bridge on the Yagaji Island side, which is also a popular photo spot. Why not enjoy taking photos with the blue sea, Kouri Ohashi Bridge, and Kouri Island, a spacious landscape unique to Okinawa, in the background?

Just across the Kouri Bridge, Kouri Beach features a stunning contrast between the white sand and the crystal clear sodden blue waters.

Unlike the busy life of everyday life, time flows slowly on the island. Immerse yourself in this luxurious moment while walking along the beautiful beach.

By the way, Kouri Island is also called "Love Island" because of the legend of Kuijima, which is similar to the story of Adam and Eve. One of the things to enjoy on the island is visiting the heart rock at Teenu Beach, which is a power spot for love, and the cafes scattered around the island.

From Kouri Bridge, drive for about 30 minutes. You will arrive at the charming tree-lined road "Bise's Fukugi Trees." There are about 20,000 Fukugi trees in the village, some of which are 300 years old. These Fukugi trees act as wind and tide protection. It is a tourist spot that represents the northern part of Okinawa's main island, and is often used as a filming location for movies.

Park at the entrance to the avenue and take a leisurely stroll through the green tunnel with sunlight filtering through the trees, enjoying a green shower.

If you have time, you can take a tour of the tree-lined area in a water buffalo cart, or walk along the path with a guide who will tell you about the history and culture of the Bise area.

If you walk a little further from the end of Fukugi Tree Avenue, you will arrive at Bisezaki, where a small beach stretches out.

From Cape Bise, you can see Iejima offshore and the sacred island of Meeugane right in front of you. After walking along the Fukugi tree-lined streets of Bise, it's a good idea to rest your feet and enjoy the scenery along the coast.

After visiting the Fukugi Tree Line in Bise, we headed to the nearby Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. It's a must-see spot when visiting Okinawa.

The ticket office at Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is a JAL Card affiliated store, so if you pay for your admission fee with a JAL Card, you can earn double miles.

At Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, the world of the ocean in Okinawa and its surrounding areas is recreated and exhibited, from the shallows with coral reefs to the deep seas more than 200 meters deep. You can enjoy the magnificent and beautiful world of Okinawa's ocean.

The most popular of these is the Kuroshio Sea, one of the world's largest aquariums, measuring 35 meters wide, 27 meters deep, and 10 meters deep. The impressive swimming of whale sharks and manta rays, the first animals in the world to be successfully reared in captivity, is a highlight.

Feeding takes place three times a day, so if you time it right you can see the impressive feeding scenes of the whale sharks and manta rays.

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium also sells original goods, so be sure to check out the shop "Blue Manta."

A particularly recommended souvenir is the "MASSCOOL+" (620 yen each, tax included *as of February 2021). Embroidered with illustrations of the sea creatures kept at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, these masks can only be purchased here. Why not buy one as a memento of your trip? Although Blue Manta is not a "JAL Card Special Store" where you can earn double miles, don't forget to use your JAL Card to pay and collect miles.

Enjoy Okinawa's specialty, the 1-pound steak, at "STEAK HOUSE NAKAMA"

Photo 1: Enjoy Okinawa's specialty, the 1-pound steak, at "STEAK HOUSE NAKAMA"

While enjoying the stay, we went to a restaurant near the hotel for dinner. Due to the influence of the American colonial period, steak restaurants are scattered throughout Okinawa. Among them, we chose "STEAK HOUSE NAKAMA", located about 2 kilometers from the hotel.

Photo 2: Enjoy Okinawa's specialty, the 1-pound steak, at "STEAK HOUSE NAKAMA"

The American-style interior is illuminated with colorful Ryukyu glass, creating a lively atmosphere. Steaks are cooked right in front of you at the large counter seats, so you can enjoy them piping hot.

At STEAK HOUSE NAKAMA, you can enjoy high-quality beef, regardless of where it is produced. The recommended dish is American sirloin steak, which has an excellent balance of lean and fatty meat. If you come here, why not try the popular 1 pound size (450g 5,350 yen including tax, rice and salad not included).

Along with a hearty steak that will satisfy even meat lovers, I ordered the cocktail "Blue Okinawa" (1,045 yen, tax included) served in a half-yard (about 45 cm) glass. Enjoying luxurious gourmet food without any worries while traveling with your miles is sure to be the best reward for yourself.

<Tabiato> If you use your JAL Card, you can accumulate miles in your everyday life!

What did you think of this girls' solo trip to Okinawa? By using miles to save on airfare, you can enjoy such a luxurious trip. What's more, you can also earn miles while you're traveling, receive discounts, and enjoy your trip in style.

However, many people who want to travel and collect miles think, "Can I only earn miles by flying or shopping at my travel destination?" In fact, in these days of increasing cashless transactions, if you use your JAL card for everyday payments, you can earn miles.

Photo: <Tabiato> If you use your JAL Card, you can accumulate miles in your everyday life!

When paying with a JAL Card, you can usually earn 1 mile for every 200 yen you spend. For example, you can earn miles by simply paying your monthly utility bills (electricity, water, gas, etc.) and mobile phone bills with your JAL Card.

Earn double miles by joining JAL Card Shopping Mile Premium and using our affiliated stores!

Image: Earn double miles by joining JAL Card Shopping Mile Premium and using affiliated stores!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people are increasingly purchasing fashion and daily necessities online. In addition, cashless payments are available at convenience stores and supermarkets, so if you use your JAL card for these payments, you can earn miles. On this trip to Okinawa, I was able to earn about 1,000 miles by paying for rental cars, accommodation, souvenirs, etc. with my JAL card.

If you want to save as much miles as possible, why not enjoy shopping at a "JAL Card affiliated store" where you can earn double miles when paying with your JAL Card?

Furthermore, if you want to earn miles more efficiently, we recommend joining the "JAL Card Shopping Mile Premium." For an additional 3,300 yen (tax included) on top of the annual fee, you will earn double the miles on all JAL Card purchases at a rate of "100 yen = 1 mile."

In other words, if you join the "JAL Card Shopping Mile Premium" and use the "JAL Card Specialty Stores" introduced earlier, you can earn four times the usual number of miles. If you want to earn a lot of miles, please give it a try.

How many miles do you have? Simulate how many miles you can earn

Many people must be wondering, "If I pay for various expenses with my JAL Card, how many miles can I earn?"

In such a case, please use a simulation site. Just enter your monthly expenses and you can calculate the miles you will earn.

For example, if you sign up for the "JAL Card Shopping Mile Premium" plan and spend 100,000 yen per month and 1.2 million yen per year with your JAL Card, you can earn 6,000 miles in six months and 12,000 miles in one year.

For JAL Group domestic flights, the following number of miles can be redeemed for an award ticket.

JAL Group Domestic Flights
Mileage required for reward tickets
(As of February 2021)
Round trip (2 sectors): from 12,000 miles
One way (1 sector): from 6,000 miles

In other words, just by using your JAL card for a year, you can earn enough points to purchase a domestic round-trip reward ticket.

Click on the banner below to find out how many miles you can earn. We are currently running a special membership campaign.

Miles Travel is a way to make your travel even more rewarding by collecting and using miles. By using your JAL Card, you can collect miles at any time before, during, and after your trip.

Why not use your JAL Card to make your next trip smarter and more affordable?
