Award tickets can be applied for on the JAL website or by phone. The application period runs from 9:30 (Japan time) 330 days prior to the departure date to the day before the departure date (Japan time).

This time, I will be using reward tickets for both the outbound and return trip, so I will exchange the 15,000 miles I have accumulated on my JAL Card for reward tickets.

If the return flight is before the reservation start date, you cannot reserve the round trip at the same time. Either reserve both the round trip after the reservation start date, or reserve the outbound and return flights separately.

Easily reserve your Times Car Rental with "JAL Pitto Go"

JAL Card offers a wide range of convenient services before your trip. This time, I used the "JAL Pitto Go" service to get around various places by rental car after arriving at the destination.

JAL Pitto Go is a service that allows you to complete departure procedures at participating Times Car Rental locations by simply touching your JAL Card or JAL Mileage Bank Card (with IC function) to the card reader installed on the counter.

You can use the service by registering as a member of Times Car Share (there is a membership card issuance fee of 1,650 yen (tax included) when joining, and a monthly basic fee of 880 yen (tax included) for the individual plan). You can also give prior consent to registering your JAL card on the Times Car Rental website and linking your JAL card to the service at a store that accepts the procedure.

Before you leave, you can register your JAL Card at a Times Car Rental store near the airport and reserve and pay for your rental car, eliminating the hassle of having to go through the hassle of paperwork once you're there.

What's more, Times Car Rental is a "JAL Card authorized dealer." By paying with your JAL Card, you can earn twice the usual number of miles, making your trip smart and affordable.

I headed to Naha Airport on an award ticket redeemed from my miles. Feeling the extraordinary warmth typical of spring in Okinawa, I first boarded the free shuttle bus at Times Car Rental and headed to the rental car office.

Take the shuttle bus from Naha Airport and arrive at Times Car Naha Airport in about 5 minutes.

Normally, the rental car process takes a surprisingly long time, as you have to show your driver's license, go through a detailed explanation of important points, etc. However, since I made the reservation using JAL Pitto Go, I only had to touch my JAL card to the card reader at the reception counter at the store, and the process was complete.

Not only can you earn miles at a great value, but you can also make rental car procedures convenient and smart, so if you want to have as much time as possible to enjoy your trip, be sure to use JAL Pitto Go.

From Naha Airport, it takes about an hour via the Okinawa Expressway in a rental car. If you're feeling a bit hungry, stop by the Kyoda Roadside Station, located just past the Kyoda Interchange at the end of the road.

Since opening in 1994 as Okinawa Prefecture's first roadside station, it has been ranked high many times, including most recently as number one in 2020 in a travel information site's national roadside station ranking, and is extremely popular with tourists and locals alike.

At the main facility, the Yanbaru Products Center, there is a wide selection of souvenirs on display. There are corners for local specialties from the northern part of Okinawa's main island and the surrounding islands, and there is so much to choose from that you'll be spoilt for choice.

The store offers not only processed foods such as sweets and seasonings, but also fresh tropical fruits and vegetables. The seasonal produce delivered directly from the producers is perfect as a souvenir.

Delivery by courier is also available, so if you want to get your hands on local foods, we recommend searching here. Of course, you can pay by credit card, so please use your JAL card.

Additionally, there are parlours lined up in front of the store where you can easily enjoy local delicacies such as sata andagi, Okinawa soba, and tacos.

If you're feeling a bit hungry, fill up on some sata andagi (starting at 90 yen each) at Mitsuya before heading to your next destination!

Relax in Okinawa's nature on the beautiful beaches of Kouri Island

Kouri Island is a small island connected to Yagaji Island in Nago City by the 1,960-meter-long Kouri Bridge. As an isolated island that can be easily visited by car, it is one of Okinawa's most famous driving spots, along with the Kouri Bridge.

Furthermore, there is a road park at the foot of the bridge on the Yagaji Island side, which is also a popular photo spot. Why not enjoy taking photos with the blue sea, Kouri Ohashi Bridge, and Kouri Island, a spacious landscape unique to Okinawa, in the background?

Just across the Kouri Bridge, Kouri Beach features a stunning contrast between the white sand and the crystal clear sodden blue waters.

Take a stroll along the Bise Fukugi Tree Line and enjoy a green shower

From Kouri Bridge, drive for about 30 minutes. You will arrive at the charming tree-lined road "Bise's Fukugi Trees." There are about 20,000 Fukugi trees in the village, some of which are 300 years old. These Fukugi trees act as wind and tide protection. It is a tourist spot that represents the northern part of Okinawa's main island, and is often used as a filming location for movies.

If you have time, you can take a tour of the tree-lined area in a water buffalo cart, or walk along the path with a guide who will tell you about the history and culture of the Bise area.

If you walk a little further from the end of Fukugi Tree Avenue, you will arrive at Bisezaki, where a small beach stretches out.

After visiting the Fukugi Tree Line in Bise, we headed to the nearby Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. It's a must-see spot when visiting Okinawa.

Feeding takes place three times a day, so if you time it right you can see the impressive feeding scenes of the whale sharks and manta rays.

A particularly recommended souvenir is the "MASSCOOL+" (620 yen each, tax included *as of February 2021). Embroidered with illustrations of the sea creatures kept at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, these masks can only be purchased here. Why not buy one as a memento of your trip? The American-style interior is illuminated with colorful Ryukyu glass, creating a lively atmosphere. Steaks are cooked right in front of you at the large counter seats, so you can enjoy them piping hot.

At STEAK HOUSE NAKAMA, you can enjoy high-quality beef, regardless of where it is produced. The recommended dish is American sirloin steak, which has an excellent balance of lean and fatty meat. If you come here, why not try the popular 1 pound size (450g 5,350 yen including tax, rice and salad not included).

Along with a hearty steak that will satisfy even meat lovers, I ordered the cocktail "Blue Okinawa" (1,045 yen, tax included) served in a half-yard (about 45 cm) glass. Enjoying luxurious gourmet food without any worries while traveling with your miles is sure to be the best reward for yourself.
